CONCOR Gets New Finance Head as Railways Clears Vivek Gupta Appointment

In a significant leadership move in India’s logistics and rail freight ecosystem, the Ministry of Railways has approved the appointment of Vivek Gupta as Director (Finance) at Container Corporation of India Ltd.

The appointment, cleared by the competent authority, will take effect upon his assumption of charge. Gupta, an officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), is currently serving as GGM (Finance) at Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd. on deputation.

He has been appointed on an immediate absorption basis for a tenure of five years or until further orders. The Ministry has also indicated that his resignation from railway service will be effective from the date he assumes charge at CONCOR.

The transition reflects a continuity of financial leadership between DFCCIL and CONCOR, both critical institutions in India’s freight infrastructure architecture. CONCOR plays a central role in containerised cargo movement and multimodal logistics integration, making the Director (Finance) position pivotal for capital allocation, infrastructure investment and financial governance.

Gupta’s experience in railway finance and freight corridor operations is expected to support CONCOR’s strategic priorities, particularly as India accelerates investments in logistics infrastructure and aims to improve supply chain efficiency. The appointment comes at a time when aligning financial discipline with expansion plans is becoming increasingly critical for public sector logistics entities.

The Ministry has requested that the formal date of assumption of charge be communicated to the Railway Board upon completion of the transition. From a RiskAwareness perspective, the appointment underscores the growing importance of financial governance in India’s logistics expansion, where capital-intensive infrastructure must align with disciplined risk and return frameworks.
Continuity between DFCCIL and CONCOR also signals a more integrated approach to managing execution risk in freight corridor and multimodal logistics development.
