Kalyan Kumar Appointed MD & CEO of Central Bank of India

The Central Government has appointed Kalyan Kumar as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of Central Bank of India, effective September 30, 2025, for a tenure of three years or until further notice, according to a regulatory filing by the bank.

Mr. Kumar, a postgraduate in science from Rajendra Prasad Agriculture University, Pusa, is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB) and holds several professional certifications in trade finance, SME finance, IT security and KYC-AML from the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF).

He began his banking career in 1995 with Union Bank of India as a Rural Development Officer. Over the years, he has held key roles including branch head across multiple categories, Principal of the Staff Training College, and several leadership positions at the corporate office, contributing to business process transformation, credit review, vigilance and overseeing the merger of Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank into Union Bank of India.

Before joining Central Bank of India, Mr. Kumar served as Executive Director at Punjab National Bank, where he was also the Chairman of PNB Gilts Ltd. and PNB Cards & Services Ltd. Additionally, he held board positions at IIFCL, NIBSCOM and was a member of the Board of Governors of MDI Society. He has participated in leadership programs conducted by Egon Zehnder in collaboration with Harvard University.

The bank clarified that Mr. Kumar has no familial ties with any directors or key managerial personnel and is not debarred by SEBI or any other authority from holding the position.
