Bandhan Bank has officially appointed Biju E Punnachalil as its new Chief Risk Officer (CRO) for a tenure of three years, effective July 14, 2025. His appointment concludes the interim term held by Sundeep Bhan.
With a distinguished banking career spanning over three decades, Biju brings deep expertise in risk management, treasury, retail banking, and operational governance. Most recently, he served as the CRO of South Indian Bank, where he played a key role in institutionalizing an enterprise-wide risk framework covering credit, market, and operational risk domains. His strategic oversight helped strengthen risk culture and compliance during a crucial growth phase for the bank.
Biju began his career at Federal Bank in 1993 and moved to South Indian Bank in 1996, where he served for nearly 30 years. His leadership in asset-liability management, regulatory compliance, and governance frameworks has been widely acknowledged in the banking community.
An alumnus of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, Biju holds a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in physics.
His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Bandhan Bank, as the institution continues to evolve its risk management strategies in a dynamic regulatory and operational environment. With Biju at the helm of the risk function, the bank is expected to further enhance its resilience and governance standards in line with industry best practices.
