Saikat Sarkar Appointed Group Chief Legal Officer at TAFE

TAFE – Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited, part of The Amalgamation Group, has appointed Saikat Sarkar as Group Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, strengthening its leadership bench at a time when governance, regulatory foresight, and global risk management are becoming central to corporate strategy.

Sarkar is widely regarded as one of India’s most accomplished in-house legal leaders, bringing over 25 years of experience across India and international markets. His career spans senior legal and governance leadership roles across the United Kingdom, the United States, Asia Pacific and other global jurisdictions, giving him a rare combination of domestic depth and international perspective.

Prior to joining TAFE, Sarkar served as Global General Counsel at Eicher Motors Limited, where he played a pivotal role in supporting the global growth of Royal Enfield. He has also held senior leadership positions at Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages and Hindustan Unilever Limited, operating in complex, highly regulated environments and advising boards and CXOs on matters spanning governance, compliance, and strategic risk.

He began his professional journey as a practicing lawyer before the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court, building a strong foundation in litigation and regulatory law before transitioning into in-house leadership. Over the years, he has developed deep expertise across mergers and acquisitions, competition and antitrust law, ESG, regulatory and government affairs, ethics and compliance, data privacy, dispute resolution, and complex cross-border transactions.

In his new role, Sarkar will oversee TAFE’s legal, governance, risk, and compliance functions across geographies. His mandate will include strengthening governance frameworks, enabling sustainable growth, and supporting the Group’s expanding global footprint at a time when legal strategy is increasingly intertwined with business outcomes.

Known for his collaborative leadership style and strong team-building capabilities, Sarkar is respected for delivering practical, business-aligned legal solutions while fostering robust ethical and compliance cultures within organisations.

He holds a law degree from the University of Calcutta, a postgraduate qualification in Competition Law from King’s College London, is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, and is a Life Fellow Member of the Institute of Directors, India.

The appointment underscores TAFE’s emphasis on proactive governance, disciplined risk management, and strategic legal leadership as it continues to scale globally.

In an era where regulatory scrutiny, ESG accountability and cross-border complexity intersect, leadership transitions like Saikat Sarkar’s appointment signal how risk, governance and legal foresight are no longer support functions but central pillars of enterprise resilience and long-term value creation.
