IndusInd Bank has named Arijit Basu as its new Chairman, marking a significant addition to the bank’s leadership as it sharpens its focus on governance strength and long-term strategic direction.
Basu brings with him over forty years of experience across banking, insurance and financial services, with a career that spans senior leadership roles in India and overseas. His tenure at the State Bank of India included key assignments as Managing Director, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SBI Life Insurance, and Chief Executive Officer for SBI’s Japan operations. In these roles, he was closely involved in expanding international banking operations and advancing insurance-led growth initiatives.
In addition to his executive background, Basu has built a strong reputation in boardroom leadership and strategic advisory roles. He currently chairs HDB Financial Services and has previously served in senior advisory and non-executive capacities with organisations such as Deloitte India, Ares Asia Management, Prudential plc, Peerless Hospitex, CleanMax, and AZB & Partners. This breadth of exposure across regulated financial institutions, professional services and advisory platforms is expected to bring a nuanced perspective to IndusInd Bank’s board.
The appointment underscores IndusInd Bank’s intent to reinforce leadership oversight, strengthen governance frameworks and support sustainable value creation as the bank navigates an evolving financial and regulatory environment.
From a risk-awareness perspective, Arijit Basu’s four-decade career across banking, insurance, international operations and board-level governance equips him to recognise early warning signals, strengthen oversight discipline and restore stakeholder confidence, critical for a bank navigating heightened scrutiny.
His deep exposure to regulated institutions and crisis-tested leadership roles positions him to embed stronger risk culture, governance rigor and long-term stability at IndusInd Bank, turning a period of stress into an opportunity for structural reset and sustainable value creation.
