In a significant leadership move, India Exim Bank has elevated Deepak Bhatia to the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO), underscoring the institution’s growing emphasis on digital transformation, innovation, and resilient technology infrastructure.
Bhatia brings with him nearly two decades of experience within the bank, having been associated with India Exim Bank since August 2006. Over the years, he has held key positions including Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Assistant General Manager, where he played a central role in strengthening IT operations and cybersecurity frameworks.
His elevation comes at a time when financial institutions are increasingly aligning technology strategy with business resilience, regulatory expectations, and evolving threat landscapes. As CTO, Bhatia is expected to lead initiatives around digital modernisation, secure architecture design, and the integration of advanced technology capabilities to support the bank’s global operations.
Prior to his tenure at India Exim Bank, Bhatia worked with the State Bank of India as an Assistant Manager and began his career as a Software Developer at Websity Computers. This blend of banking and technical expertise positions him well to navigate the intersection of financial services and technology risk.
On the academic front, Bhatia holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Indore, and has also completed a Global Immersion programme at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from ISACA and holds multiple degrees in Computer Applications and Mathematics, reflecting a strong foundation in both management and technology disciplines.
His appointment signals a strategic shift towards embedding technology leadership at the core of institutional decision-making, particularly as banks continue to invest in digital ecosystems while strengthening cyber resilience.
