Asset Reconstruction Company (India) Limited (ARCIL), one of the country’s pioneering institutions in the stressed asset resolution space, has appointed Phanindranath Kakarla as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director with effect from March 9, 2026. The leadership change follows the completion of the tenure of Pallav Mohapatra, who steps down as part of the company’s planned succession transition.
Kakarla steps into the role after serving as President at ARCIL since April 2025. His appointment was part of a board-approved succession framework designed to ensure continuity and a seamless leadership transition. During this period, he worked closely with the outgoing CEO and the senior leadership team on strategic initiatives, operational transformation and business expansion.
With extensive experience in the financial services sector, Kakarla brings significant expertise in the acquisition and resolution of stressed assets. Prior to joining ARCIL, he held senior leadership roles within the Edelweiss Group, where he oversaw several key strategic functions. His responsibilities spanned finance, operations, corporate services and group-wide transformation initiatives, providing him with a broad perspective on financial sector dynamics and asset resolution strategies.
ARCIL’s Board expressed confidence that Kakarla’s experience in financial services and distressed asset management would help guide the organisation through its next phase of growth. As India’s banking sector continues to strengthen asset quality and improve recovery mechanisms, asset reconstruction companies remain a critical component of the financial ecosystem.
Speaking on his appointment, Phanindranath Kakarla said he was honoured to lead the organisation at a pivotal stage in its evolution. He noted that ARCIL has played a pioneering role in building India’s asset reconstruction framework and remains a trusted partner for banks and financial institutions dealing with stressed assets. Kakarla added that his focus would be on building on ARCIL’s established leadership position while delivering long-term value for all stakeholders.
Chairman Narayanan Subramaniam welcomed the appointment and highlighted that the transition was part of a structured succession plan implemented by the Board over the past year. He emphasised that Kakarla’s deep understanding of financial services and asset resolution would help strengthen ARCIL’s strategic direction and future growth initiatives.
From a RiskAwareness perspective as India’s banking system continues to focus on balance sheet strengthening and faster resolution of non-performing assets, leadership transitions within asset reconstruction companies like ARCIL remain critical for sustaining institutional expertise in distressed asset management.
